Step 5: Supporting the Floor
Now that the building materials are on site it’s time to start framing the house. The first step of the framing process is to build the pony walls which support the floor.

If you look closely at the 2×4’s that are sitting on the concrete, you will notice that they are a different color than the other lumber. That’s because they are pressure treated. We use pressure treated lumber so that the moisture from the concrete doesn’t wick into the wood and damage your flooring.
After the pony walls are built we add the sill plate. It’s also pressure treated lumber to prevent moisture from wicking up from the foundation into the home.
